"If you believe what you like in the Gospel, and reject what you dont like, it is not the Gospel you believe but yourself." St. Augustine!

Green Street DEFINITELY has open arms toward all comers! It's a very diverse population-- white, black, hispanic, straight, gay, several bi-racial families. There are Wake profs, other professionals, as well as all manner of working class folks. When I first walked in the door several years ago, I burst into tears, as it's what I had been looking for my whole life. As far as gay members go, GS recently became a "Reconciling Congregation"-- I believe the first Methodist congregation in the state to do so. But know, if you join, it's a congregation that expects it's members to "do the work". . . we're VERY active with a medical clinic, after school program for neighborhood kids, clothing closet and food pantry. It's an amazing place.

Check it out: Green Street Methodist Church (http://www.gbgm-umc.org/greenstreet/ - broken link)

Sorry to read all these other comments, Tarheelhombre, since these people can't seem to stop slinging mud in a conversation they are not part of. Lets hope they don't also follow scripture in tearing out people's eyes and such! I commend you on your search for intelligent spiritual life.

Really, the only hate I see in this thread is from those who can't handle and/or respect another opinion.

So "Paul was ignorant, the scripture is compromised etc".

Okay then, Jesus must be "on the money" then and trust worthy right?

Jesus DID define marriage, but I'm not sure some of you can handle it.
Mat 19:3 Some Pharisees came to him to test him. They asked, “Is it lawful for a man to divorce his wife for any and every reason?”

Mat 19:4 “Haven't you read,” he replied, “that at the beginning the Creator ‘made them male and female,’

Mat 19:5 and said, ‘For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh’?

Mat 19:6 So they are no longer two, but one. Therefore what God has joined together, let man not separate.”

I don't see "God made them Adam and Steve." No.

I don't see "a Man shall leave his gay adopted parents and be joined to his husband." No.

I see "Male" "Female" "Married" "Don't mess with it". Period.

Go ahead and say that's not accurate etc and make up your own belief system if you like, you're free to do so in this country. I'll simply believe God's Word.

Well said, you hit the nail on the head. I don't understand how these people can take all of these scriptures out of context just to apease their own sins. In the end it is not going to profit them anything. Like Jesus said he that builds his house on the sand will not stand, but he that builds it on the rock or Word of God will stand forever. I believe all churches should be accepting. Accepting and loving all people is of God; however the Bible makes it clear how we are suppose to live and what is sin.

Dude, this is a thread about progressive Christianity; therefore, your rightwing fundamentalist views and arguments are inapposite, and rather rude. This is not a thread for fundamentalist antics. Your beliefs are irrelevant to other church and denominations' creeds and practice.

New Covenant Lutheran Church in Archdale is also a progressive Christian congregation.
