If he is considering Clemson, the Powdersville area will give you a good public school system for the younger one (Anderson District One) while being close enough to easily commute to Clemson. It takes us 30 minutes to get to Clemson from our house on the Northern edge of Anderson County in Powdersville.
Houses in that area also tend to be on bigger lots than you get in Simpsonville. It is also just a bit closer to the mountains (I can be hiking around Table Rock or Jocasse in 45 minutes from the house). They have almost every shopping option I could want 10 minutes away in Easley. If I can't find it in Easley, the mall in Greenville is 30 minutes away and the one in Anderson is 40 minutes. Downtown Greenville is a 20 minute drive.
One downside is 153 coming from Greenville s getting to be really congested with traffic and businesses but with a great location it is easy to see why. Still beats the heck out of trying to deal with Woodruff road (I remember when Woodruff Road was 2 lanes with no traffic but I digress).
Another downside to the Powdersville area is lack of a good park within 5-10 minutes. They are in the process of developing a park at Dolly Cooper but that will likely be a 5-10 year process. They are also planning a greenway for Easley but again, that will take 5-10 years. Until then you have to drive a few minutes to get to a good park.
I agree that Powdersville would be a good fit. Easley has the JB Red Owens Complex & you can go there for walking & sporting events. Pendleton has some schools people really like & is a small more historic town. Mostly quaint little shops so you would probably drive into Anderson for more. That is a short drive by the way.
