Can anyone recommend a mortgage loan lender who is knowledgeable about working with folks who have been through bankruptcy? There are a lot of people in that position now that never would have dreamed it would happen to them. Also, what about a realtor who is knowledgeable with this situation? Sometimes seller financing is a good option. Thanks for any recommendations.

Scooter -

Try Churchill Mortgage. They're very good with working with this type of situation and underwriting manual mortgages. Also, Connie Rice Realty (with KW) is a pretty solid group. They're a Dave Ramsey ELP and I've talked to them in the past regarding selling and moving. Also have had a friend sell and buy their home through them.

HTH some!

Thanks Valien. I cannot find an office for them in Greenville. Where do I contact them? Looks like they are in Anderson. Is that the closest?

Yes, Anderson is their closest office. I just talked/worked through them via the phone and email.

I live in New York City. I work for the NYC Bd of Ed.. My annual income is 100000. Last summer I filed for bankruptcy. I need to move and want to buy a small home. I can get the down payment from my TDA (401k). Can I get a morgage?

I would never suggest borrowing money from a 401k for a down payment, but I'll digress since this is not a finance forum.

You might be better off asking in the Personal Finance forum:

Somebody correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think whether you can get a mortgage post-bankruptcy depends much on the region of the country you're moving to.

Also, check with reddit.com/r/personalfinance or /r/daveramsey. Some great discussions on that topic there.
