The former Allen Bennett Hospital and Robert Huntington Nursing Home, located at 313 Memorial Drive, Greer, South Carolina 29650-1522, closed after Greenville Health System opened Greer Memorial Hospital on its Greer Medical Campus on South Buncombe Road. The ten acre site has been a target of redevelopment for several years.

In Greer City Council's most recent meeting, the idea of full demolition was brought up.

It needs to go. That strip of land is in a great area and if it was demolished and rebuilt for nice commercial/retail, etc it would do fairly well.

The idea of reusing the hospital for Veterans Affairs use was considered unlikely several years ago. The needs of veterans continue to grow.

I will agree it is time for the site to move forward from healthcare uses to commercial uses.

Do we really need another strip mall in Greer???

I thought senior housing was going to be considered.

Speaking of Greer Memorial....I heard it was nice but found out first hand just how nice it was, and how fantastic the staff is. Very impressed!!!!

I do not think the site would be good for additional senior housing. Greenville Health System's Greer Medical Campus has several senior and assisted living communities present or being developed around it.

I would like to see the City of Greer use the site as a moderate density residential/commercial development. It could be a catalyst for helping West Wade Hampton Boulevard feel more like a town street rather than a commercial corridor.

Greer City Council unanimously voted in favor of demolishing the former Allen Bennett Hospital and Roger Huntington Nursing Home on Tuesday, 23 June. Demolition is estimated for completion in January 2016.

What Greer really needs is a large park with a dedicated jogging track, but I suppose there is no cash to be made in that.

Nissan of Greer, 14125 East Wade Hampton Boulevard, Greer, South Carolina 29651-1558, has been open for nearly a decade. Has it outgrown its original location?

I can see Benson Automotive Group interested in the site to prevent a competitor from moving in.

I agree another car dealership is not right for the site. It would be nice to see a Publix supermarket there instead. As the site has been vacant long enough, any reuse idea is doable.

I'd rather see an nice new Outback at that location. The Greenville location is just impossible to visit unless you get there well before 5.
