There are 55+ active adult communities south of Charlotte and in the Charleston/Hilton Head areas. Haven't seen any in the Greenville area. Check the Del Webb web site.
Just wondering if someone could respond and tell me if there are any 55+ active adult communities in the Greenville area. I've tried to look through the web but could not find any, but thought you might be aware of them. Thank you.
Really only Florida and the northeast have those that I know of. I'm sure the southwest has some too. They are big on those in the northest.
Thanks.... I'll keep looking as I want to keep all my options open as far as which state(s) to look at. I've found 55+ active adult communities in Delaware, Maryland, Pennsylvania and Virginia, but want to look at NC and SC also. I'm looking to move out of NJ sometime in the next few years.
I looked at adult communities in FL and found them to be more expensive and very restrictive. I like deed restrictions and rules about barking dogs and noisy cars, but what I mean is that I felt they offered much less house for the money just because of the services that I probably won't ever use. I do like the lawn maintenance that many communities offer however. I guess like anything else, it's a personal choice. One new Lennar community I toured in North Port FL was beautiful, but the monthly regime was over $300 a month. Residents were from 55 years of age, but as long as one adult is over 55, a younger spouse can also live there.
I've heard of communities where someone's grandchildren can't even stay with the homeowner for a couple of weeks. So these are rules anyone considering an all adult community might want to consider. I also noticed that many communities that aren't 55+ simply don't offer amenities that would attract children. We have lots of golf course developments where seeing a young family with children is rare because they aren't "child friendly."
