The hot topic at a dinner Sunday was Coronavirus. Many of the stories were about Costco and other stores around the country selling out of everyday staples. On CNBC this morning there was more of the same.

I hope this particular thread can avoid the whole argument about whether or not we should be concerned.
Surely someone will make the obligatory reference to milk and bread selling out before a snow flurry.

Simply stated: If you are making any preparations, what are they?

Not worrying about it no more than I worry about the flu. This is probably the wrong section though since this is more world related. No offense.

I'm preparing by:
  • Avoiding the hype
  • Staying Vigilant
  • Washing Hands
  • Avoiding large gatherings (especially if you are already ill)
  • Buying Stocks

Hand Washing!

Whenever I go in a public restroom I am always amazed at the people that walk out the door without washing their hands.
Disgusting!

Nope sure not. Who doesn't wash their hands to begin with?

You are still more likely to die from the flu. Probably the only difference for me here lately is I'm being more diligent with hand washing to make sure I get all the surfaces of my hands and my wrists. I'm also being more careful to limit contact with surfaces that see a lot of use like doorknobs, gas pumps, etc. Most of this extra caution started after several people near me at work came down with the flu but I'm going to try to keep it up until both flu and this new virus have subsided.

Me too. I noticed it's mostly older guys that don't wash their hands. It must have something to do with being in the military? As for me, I'm going about my regular daily life, which includes washing my hands many times a day and using a paper towel after washing when I touch a handle. I never eat at food bars or buffets.

Well those are just awful in general. Regardless of germs.

I'm digging a bunker out in the woods and stocking it with guns, ammunition, canned and dehydrated foods and other survival gear.

Not really.

Just going about my normal routine.

Me, too, especially stocks—everything is on sale!

Except the large gatherings. We went to the Carolina women’s basketball game yesterday and then out to eat in Columbia. There are any number of diseases floating around at any given moment. Look at the anti-vaxxers out there and their potential exposure.

We have created a couple generations of hypochondriacs who obsess about everything. Go into a grocery and watch young mothers bathe their kids and buggies with the wipes. No one is getting outa here alive so we take ordinary precautions and try to live our lives to the fullest.
