As close as we are to Charlotte, 'Dega is to Atlanta.
Lack of local support. (Based on things NOW.) Theres no dirt tracks in the county, where was that big motorsports park suppose to be, (in the county). Now, would those that shut down all of the "noise" have still wanted them shut down, we will never know.

BMW would have been very happy if 'Dega was just a few miles away. BMW tests a lot of cars at Dega and spend many weeks there per year.

Would they have called it the 'Burg?

Rumor was BMW had bought the old 85 racetrack to convert it to a test grounds. We can see how that went. How many tracks are actually in the place they are named after. I suspect, even though it was to be in Spartanburg, it would have ended up with a Greenville moniker much like other tracks.

Yeah, local tracks.. Same thing happened to Old Dominion up in Manassas, VA that I used to go to quite a bit.. Noise complaints from people who bought property near the track.. Track had been there since the 40's..

But.. Again.. The tax revenue that Talladega brings in.. Spartanburg wouldn't turn their nose up at that and would have told residents to deal with it.

Finally got to watch the YouTube video. Slapshoes did a nice job with it.

Of the venues he picked, downtown airport seemed to be the viable one for consideration. I especially like the idea of using the convention center.

The only other choice would be to build from scratch a short dirt track that was easy to access and had the infrastructure that could support a race weekend.

Yeah, I watched it last night as well.. He brought up the main points about GPS that I did.. I didn't even think of Anderson or TR.. You could put Cherokee Speedway in the same boat as TR that he mentioned.. Laurens Speedway.. Which, as best I know, isn't that bad a place anymore (The late 80's and 90's that was a pretty bad place to be) has the infrastructure problems.

All in all.. It's a nice little pipe dream but has zero chance.

I dont put much faith in the fact Slap is from this area, BTW. Not only did he mispronounce Enoree once, but 3 times in his video of Confederate Motor Speedway, and his dates are actually off in that video.

How can you mispronounce Enoree?

Now, I can understand Cayce or something like that, but Enoree seems.. pretty straightforward. I saw but didn't watch the Confederate speedway one.. I dug on the Air Base one and think I found the owners parents buried down at Upper Long Cane in Abbeville.

I've mentioned to Slapshoes that he should do a video on Louise Smith. Fascinating woman.

Once he says it with an M instead of an N, but said it almost "right". Then its Enor - ee, instead of En or ee. I live less than 4 miles from that track, and was actually out there when they tried to bring it back.

I would love to see him do one on Ms Louis. Im related to her by marriage, but its way, way off!

Has Dale Jr done an episode on Airbase Speedway yet for his Lost Speedways show on Peacock TV?
