What are the advantages and /or disadvantages of each? Schools, employment and real estate (renting initially) aren't part of the equation. Just looking at overall picture of aesthetics and amenities/conveniences. Initially I probably give a slight edge to Taylors for mountain access but given the relative short distance between the two, not hard to overcome.

Sorry you’re not getting any answers. My experience with Simpsonville is extremely limited. We have family in Greer and Taylors. As you noted, they like the access to the mountains, NC wineries (it’s a favorite day trip) and all the amenities of Greenville. Our grandson is in elementary school and had some speech issues. They’ve been wonderful with extra specialists to help him. Taylors also has a very busy, active YMCA where our grandson swims.

I think both communities offer a good lifestyle. Renting first is a GREAT idea. We, for example, thought Greenville was our first choice, but while renting and house hunting, we discovered a much better fit for us in Spartanburg.

Best of luck.

Simpsonville has newer shopping centers and a more country vibe than Taylors with the exception of the Pebble Creek area north of Wade Hampton. It has a true small downtown area while Taylors does not. Taylors is not far from downtown Greer which gets more hype than Simpsonville's downtown.

Simpsonville has the upstate's outdoor concert venue in Heritage Park.

Simpsonville has more pine trees, Taylors is more stark in the winter.

Taylors has Greenville pavilion rec center with ice skating rink, ping pong tables , etc

Thank you all for responding!

After further discussion my roommate and I have seemingly landed on Spartanburg, specifically the SW side in an apartment complex off of John White Blvd about a mile east of I-26 on Southport Road. The budget and amenities made the most sense for us, and excited about a rental rate 40% less than where we are now in the Orlando area for a basically identical apartment. Employment isn't a factor for us nor schools, just a desirable area with access to better grocery stores and the transportation grid. I love mountain culture and the outdoors so thrilled with what seems like easy access to that. Can y'all elaborate more on the housing location? Hoping we haven't stumbled into one of the rotten eggs so to speak.

Best of luck . . . I’m incredibly happy on the Eastside of Spartanburg. I don’t know much about the area of your apartment (except Abbott’s Farm store right at the I-26 interchange. Great place).

Spartanburg’s growing but not too fast. Housing options are quite varied, depending on size desired and, of course, price. Eastside, close in, has older housing with enormous trees. Further out quickly turns rural. Eastside has a Publix, Fresh Market, Ingles, Lidl and Aldi. Eastside also has the Cottonwood Trail for hiking. I don’t know about public transportation, if that’s what you mean.

I don’t know much about West Side so someone else can answer that.

I hope y’all have had a chance to explore how the downtown is growing. We have several friends and we love to just go to Happy Hour on Morgan Square and “people watch”. Calm, mellow crowd. Lots of new variety of restaurants . . . Nice upscale bowling alley, ax throwing, breweries, wine shops, a large library and a really nice YMCA, the Chapman Cultural Center (Little Theater, Symphony, Ballet, Arts). Special events on the Square range from jazz festivals to Dickens Christmas to BBQ cookoffs. Just a nice large, small city! Welcome to to The ‘Burg!

Welcome to Spartanburg! Your apartment is very close to everything the westside has to offer. My mother lives off of Willis Road on the other side of I-26. She loves it over there. I would encourage you to also visit downtown and also the east side of Spartanburg. If you need to know anything about the area please let me know.

Not sure about Taylor’s but Simpsonville is a good place to live. No crime. Everything is kept up well and you have plenty of stores. The downtown is small but it’s nice to walk around.

The only con I can think of is the traffic. Driving on Fairview is difficult most of the day but that’s where every store is on so you can’t avoid it. The city has outgrown its roads. They are improving them but it will take years before it catches up.

Simpsonville is about an hour drive from the mountains. Not as close as Taylors.
