Blast from the past reading the original posts in this thread, I had only lived here less than a year when the big gas shortage in 2008 happened
I remember that too. They had to shut down because of the hurricane in the gulf. Gas was going up about .20 every hour that day because everyone was trying to fill up at the same time. I really don't see how the gas chains got away with that since price gouging during a storm is illegal. The whole situation was short lived though about two days. The panic buying was the real problem in the end.

With a smart phone in almost every pocket/purse, there should be no reason for people not to be aware of the news and get prepared. I realize the hurricane story was a few years ago, but this pipeline break has been around for about a week now. I saw people on TV complaining in Atlanta of not being able to buy gas, didn't know why gas was out.
As for me I filled up before the weekend just in case.
If you see a hurricane heading to the Gulf area, I would go ahead and fill up and prepare just in case. It doesn't take a lot of work.
My parents are on the outskirts of Hendersoville, NC, towards Brevard and there's no gas up there that my Mom can find. Headed up there tomorrow and she wants me to bring her 5 gallons!
Saw the price falling at a Walmart Station today from yesterday. The local tv news is doing their silly part to stir things up using terms like "soaring prices". Just like they make a big deal when we get an inch of snow in the winter.

Mom found gas in Brevard! It's in short supply up there, but at least she found some!!
I saw a post on another website that QT in Lyman was out of gas as of 6:55am today.
Pipeline re-route has been installed and they plan to start pumping gas through tomorrow.
AAA is reporting that gas prices may still rise a bit before they fall.
