Interesting perspective on the start of Southwest's S. Carolina service from the "other side", this one from Nashville: Southwest Airlines begins Nashville-South Carolina flights | The Tennessean | tennessean.com

Nice to see/hear: "It's safe to say that the flights were full, and as far out as we can see it looks good," said Chris Mainz, a spokesman for the carrier. "There's demand for the new service."

BTW - LUV the new pics g-man!

There are 170 photos from the recent "Southwest Airlines & GSP Progressive Dinner Tweetup" on Rose Photography & Design's website. Participating restaurants included The Lazy Goat, Larkin's on the River, Nantucket Seafood Grill, Nose Dive, and Barley's Taproom & Pizzeria. Good food, good drinks, good times... and we didn't even need to travel out of this <sarcasm alert > "poor old mill town" to enjoy it all.

We were on the first flight to Orlando (MCO). It was our first time flying with SW. Loved everything except the way they board you. Open seating is a joke. I would much rather have a reserved seat that I choose when I book a flight. I could not belive how many people first on took a middle seat and then had to get up and let someone in to the window. Took much too long. Same story coming back.

The Southwest boarding style is definitely an acquired taste. You CAN do Online Check In and thereby get a higher boarding group (nearer to the start of the process in order to have more open seats to choose from), but I think that costs extra. There are people who've been flying with them for years who wouldn't go back to traditional boarding.

I checked in on line exactly 24 hours before boarding and we were the 32nd and 33rd people to get on board. If I have to pay $10 more per person to circumnavigate this seating arrangement I quit seeing a savings with SW. SW will have to put up some good values for me to switch from Delta going to the same location.

Considering the 737's hold about 150 people, if you were 32nd, you were in the top 5th to board. You had your pick of any seat.

When I've flown Southwest I've always found their boarding to go much more quickly than a legacy carrier with assigned seats. On Southwest you simply get on and take a seat. No hunting for your row. Quick boarding is one of the Southwest hallmarks, along with an overall quick turn time at the gate.

That was what we were thinking. Looked to be 50 to 75 people scattered all over the aircraft when we boarded and I mean scattered. We sat 2 row behind the wing which were the first unoccupied seats together.
