Greenville High was once one of Greenville's average schools, but, I suppose with the resurgence of the desire to live in town, the school is enjoying an above average reputation. Know that the area it is in is a mixture of all income levels, from the poor and on up to the mega-rich (for Greenville). In that way, it is a school of contrasts.
It does not have the consistency of high academic achievement across all students that some other Gvl County schools currently have, but it is moving in the right directions.
It also has the distinction of being one of the few Gvl high schools that did not recently get razed to the ground and rebuilt as new. This school was "restored" which makes the school more distinctive and important to the history of Greenville. There are some poor housing areas near the school, but the nearly new pro ballpark is across the street and the awesome Falls Park is a short walk away. Not to mention SC's Governor's School for the Arts.
