I am sure I have spoken about my grandson on here. He had Cerebral Palsy. Chris entered Long Beach Memorial Hospital on Valentine's Day in distress. It took them a while to figure out what was going on. Chris had a bacterial infection that was in the Tuberculosis family and the drugs were not working. My daughter and her husband talked to Palliative Care and Social Workers and it was time to let Chris go. It was the hardest things they have had to do.
My daughter has been Chris' main caregiver for 23 yrs of his life. The drs told me it was a testament to her wonderful care that Chris was able to live as long as he did. I agree.
They were in the early 20's when Chris got sick initially and they are now in their late 40's. I have a 25 yrs granddaughter whose fine - works and does great.
We are missing Chris and it sure tugs at your heart. He lit up a room with his smile. Anyway I am not up to doing a lot of posting at this time but will be back in later. Hug your kids!!
So sorry for your loss. Something like this can never be easy but must be amazingly difficult for your daughter and a very dramatic change to her daily life. Hopefully all will find peace and comfort in the good memories.
Oh gosh! There's never words that are really adequate. I know you will all miss Chris terribly...the absence will be keenly felt. I would imagine like a knife to the heart. My sincere sympathies!
My advice is always the same in this moment - write down your memories. There is nothing more awful than realizing you are losing track of your best experiences with someone. My childhood best friend and her mother died when I was in my early 20s - we did so much together, and now I'm the sole keeper of those memories. Whenever I recall something long-buried, I write it down. It makes me feel closer to them.
