Sept 1st here we come Skipping the flying rat opener for Deer. Who is in charge of these dates?

We got a break from the heat this go round and had nice clouds for hanging tree stands.

Tree stands? Do you have somebody to herd them to you, or maybe a feeder to draw them in?

I've never seen a single tree stand in my state. I was shocked when I was in Texas to find out what they considered "Hunting". I called it, "Wait and shoot".

Nope, neither is legal in CA. It's not even close to towers, feeders and bait they use in Texas. You have to pattern them closely with game cams and tracking. From there you find well used trails and wait it out. I usually tag out in under 20 hours stand time. Completely different than how I hunt with rifle which involves at least 10 miles a day of hiking and glassing with some really long shots. I find it a very nice trade off.

Over a feeder or high fence hunts are shooting not hunting. I also won't pay to hunt private land either.

It looks like mid 80s for the opener. I'm glad it wasn't two weeks ago

I have a tag for D6. Bought a second tag for D3-5, nice how they made one tag cover three zones. So I get to hunt from south lake Tahoe to Yosemite this year. Thinking about cleaning off my black powder and get a early buck.

Yeah never did understand the reasoning for that. All three of those zones have several distinct herds of deer as well as Summering and Wintering in different areas.

I have been checking out the herds outside in my neighborhood and none of the bucks even are in their velvet yet. My father in law said I need to go up in elevation for forked bucks.
