So I have an opportunity to get one today for $1200.00 (probably closer to $1300 out the door)
I am not positive on the exact model yet (SP, LE, MT)
It will be a new one, though.

Does this seem like a decent deal for now?

As far as I can tell, even last summer before the hype, they were going for no less than $900-$1000
Depending on what model and what extras I have seen some auctions lately sell them for $1400-$2500

Any advice? Recommendations?

Can anyone talk me out of it?

It's hard to tell without knowing what bells and whistles are coming with it. But no free transaction takes place in which both parties do not feel mutual benefit. That was an "economics" way of saying if you think the price is worth the gun, then go for it!

even a base model AR like Bushmaster would not go for less than 650 before the hoopla. Colts would hold a premium. A colt would bring no less than 900 to 1100 new and I never saw any for less than 600 used, thats used not like new.

It's overpriced, but the Colts have ever been thus. These days, that's probably a great price. Me, tho, I'd wait a few months and get a regular old shooter for sub$700 when things calm down again.

Personally I would wait, unless you don't have a similar rifle on hand and want to cover your bases. The price is not obscene but the price is a bit higher than what they used to go for.

depending on the model, thats not enough overinflated to not buy it.

Colt is the standard which all others are judged by.

considering the substandard junk, bushmaster, RRA, DPMS are selling for more. jump on a Colt @ $1200-1300.

So I ended up getting it. It was the LE6920 model. My boss picked up the SOCOM version for $1800
After $60 in ammo, taxes/etc I walked out of there for about $1370.

These makers are hardly substandard junk. They are all very good makers of lower receivers and parts. I have a Colt MT, Spikes with stag arms upper and a PWA with colt upper. All work well and shoot one as good as the other. The only one I would not buy is the Plum Crazy Poly lower or any Poly lower. Not that I have heard a lot of bad reports about them I prefer an Aluminum lower. In Colt your only buying a name. It has a bit of resale value but no extra in actual value over others.

Its like saying a colt 1911 is better than a Kimber. LOL Really? Or a Remington, Springfield, or that they made better 1911s during the war than USS or Remington Rand did. Could not be farther from the truth.

In today's pricing you got a good deal. If you want one its worth taking the chance that it may go down. I think that if prices do come back below what you paid it will be a year or more. I think Colts are a fine gun but I would not pay 2k for one. Every maker from Smith to Ruger now makes an excellent copy of the AR. Colt was not the original anyway, they just got the contract to manufacture them for the US after selling Armalite sold the patent off to Colt. AR stands for Armalite not Assault rifle.

Here are my two non colts that I built from parts kits. I have had the PWA since 1985. Its been one great shooting gun. The Spikes lower with a Stag upper is the new left handed version. I also picked up the left handed Stainless Steel CMMG and a right handed CMMG bolt insert to convert them to take 22lr. That way I can go to the range and shoot cheap and plink with the rifle. And it makes me so I have an extra 3 22lr rifles. I bought when they were low, 99 bucks for each CMMG with a 30 round mag.
