Do these vids give an accurate account of the use of the shotgun in combat?

especially the statements of shotguns outperforming rifles in wild west shootouts because it is easier to hit moving targets, and the shotgun is more preferable than a submachine gun for close quarters.

When you consider that a submachine gun or a western revolver is throwing a chunk of lead that is up to .45in in diameter and that chunk has to hit a moving target, vs a shotgun that is throwing LOTS of objects that can cover a area of a couple of feet, is it any wonder that a shotgun would be preferred ?
a rifle for distance,
a submachine gun for mid range and supression fire,
a shotgun for up close and personal,
a pistol for when everything else fails

up close and personal, a shotgun does not have a spread of a couple feet. Try a couple of inches.

Maybe he means 10yds or more. But even then, if say like only half the pellets hit you, is that enough?

I'd say you would be getting warmer with a U.S. Marines and U.S. Army lesson.

The CQB video shows what one common use of a shotgun is used for. Blow or cut a hole into a door or wall. Stick the muzzle end (business end) in and aim randomly firing in all directions and angles. The theory....you cannot see your target but some blind blasts from shotgun fired in all directions of the room should naturalize them.

USMC is a Benelli M4

U.S. Army is a Mossberg 590A1

Both in 12 gauge form.

M1014 if you want to get really technical. Most people don't know what the hell that is, so M4 seems to be used more.

Why did they invent buckshot, when a single projectile like slug will do for medium to big game.

To make it easier to hit your target most likely...especially a "moving" target. Slugs are often used to crack engine blocks stopping the perps/enemies vehicle dead in it's tracks. One blast through that fender and that Chevy 350 V8 is toast and knocking, puffing blue smoke..."BANG BANG BANG"!!! LOL

Not going far with this ride any longer. lol

Best use of a shotgun in combat is clearing a room full of pukes in short order!
