I'll grant you that the NRA is upset with these groups, but that's because the NRA knows how to starategize and win. The tactics of these Open Carriers only make their job more difficult. Lemme ask ya this..... when's the last time you ever heard the name "Open Carry Texas" utterd in the halls of congress? Case and point.
You're going to compare a state specific activist group to a D.C. based one?
They criticized the proposed changes in the law and now want to be part of the victory parade and take credit.
Saw a letter to the editor in the Saturday Austin paper written by some idiot woman from Dallas who thinks open carry is going to be a danger to her grandkids, so she plans to call 911 every time she sees anyone openly carrying.
Clueless woman - her grandkids are more in danger riding in her car or mom's than they'll ever be from a guy open carrying a holstered handgun. But apparently people like her are more afraid of CHL holders than they are of criminals.
Actually it could have the opposite effect. Someone actually could target her first, being that she has a gun, depending on what type of crime they want to commit. They could also target her to steal her gun.
Now I know that's going to open up a big can of worms and start an argument that's been going on for a long time, but it could happen. Doesn't mean it will, but it could.
Down in Florida a few months ago, a guy was spotted putting his legal concealed weapon in his wasteband and some nutcase tackled him to the floor in a walmart.
In another instance, a guy was walking around with his open carry weapon, some dude came up to him and asked if he had a cigarette, then pulled his own gun out and said "I like your gun, give it to me"....
I support the right to open carry if you wish, but on a personal level, It's not something I could see myself doing, outside of a political rally or in the field. Just my personal preference.
Amen brother ! Advertising that you have a gun will put you in an instant disadvantage. Carrying a gun means having a gun at your disposal when or if you"ll need one, and not feeling macho because you have a gun.
