I love my .22 bearcat but I want a smaller/shorter barrel revolver that would fit in a pocket for when I'm walking the dog (I live the the country and there could be rattlers, coyotes, and (very rarely) cougars). I need something that fits my small hand.

Thank you. Called the local gun shop. They have the updated model 642 of the S&W 649 in an alloy material. Will check it out.

The gun store employee is lying; the 642 is not an update of any of the shrouded hammer revolvers. You do not want the 642; it is double action only. If you wish to have an alloy frame, get the Model 638. Both this and the 649 have shrouded hammers so you may fire single action. I carry the light 638 every day. In cold weather I carry the steel 649 in my jacket pocket.

S&W Mod 442 . There is no good reason to shoot single action with a double action revolver .

OP, you asked about .22 caliber revolvers and you're being pointed to .38 Special caliber handguns.

Is this handgun for pocket carry? If so, weight is very important. The lightest .22 caliber revolvers I am aware of are either from S&W, the model 317 or model 43 C. They are both fine handguns, but rather pricey, or from Ruger, who makes a handgun that you might like, their LCR, and LCRx, in .22 Long Rifle caliber. Comes in either a 2" or 3" barrel size. Nice handguns (I've fired them), with 8 round capacity.

Hope this helps.

Rich

Actually , the OP did not ask about .22 revolvers . She asked about a " smaller , shorter barrel revolver " .

I have a S&W bodyguard that I picked up for free from someone who didn’t want to deal with NYC’s insane gun laws.

It’s a great nighttime dresser gun since it has a laser and will always go bang.

Correct me if I am wrong, but wouldn’t a longer barreled revolver be better for things like snakes with shot rounds?
