I have several that belonged to my FIL with no serial number, so no idea how old they are. Oldest I am sure of is a 1956 Marlin 22 single shot. I have had it since 1956.
Not a family heirloom, but my oldest shooting iron is a First Variation Winchester 1873 Saddle Ring Carbine, manufactured in 1876;
I also have a Colt Frontier Single Action to go along with it, made in 1883.
About 10 yrs ago, my inlaws gifted me a Colt Challenger circa ‘51 and it became my first gun. It was my FIL’s and before that his dad’s. It was well used, carried by them while trapping, plinking and for small game.
So at the tender age of 50 I started enjoying this hobby. And while the old Colt still shoots well, it doesn’t leave the safe often. It definitely shows it’s age and use, but knowing it has been in the family for 7 decades I will ensure someday it goes to my grandson to keep it going.
Great great great grand dads Damascus steel barreled single shot 12.
