Any conditioner I use weighs my hair down flat, so I use shampoo only except on rare occasions -- like for a few days after I highlight. Shampoos do matter -- I used Pantene once, and it screwed my hair up so bad I ended up cutting it off. Like straw.
But like everything else, what works for one doesn't work for another. I shampoo every other day, and I use very little shampoo so I don't over strip my hair. All those lovely billowing suds and lather? Strips my hair out. A little bit barely lathers but it does clean perfectly. And I really massage my scalp -- that's what really needs cleaning. I use good shampoos, too -- the large sizes from salons last me about a year.
Ok, I would NEVER in a million years have thought I'd be one of those people who spent a lot of money on shampoo/conditioner. In fact, I might have been one of those people who made these kinds of faces
if I heard people were spending a lot of money on shampoo/conditioner.
But, um, yeah. It does make a difference. At least with my hair.
I have always been one of those people who would switch brands pretty often (or use 2 different products in the same week), so I don't think it was a 'build-up' issue. I've been on this new stuff for months now and it's...wow.
Anyone else notice this to be true?
Went from store brands to Pureology...not going back.
I am the opposite of you. I always buy goods stuff and had no need to switch bands because I was happy with what I bought. Pureology is excellent, more expensive than the Goldwell Ultra rich I am using. I thought about switching to it but I buy my supply online and I am happy with what I use.
It doesn't matter, for me. I have healthy, thick, wavy hair that doesn't require any special treatment to look or feel okay. I know some people have tight curls that require special conditioning care to remain healthy and not get dry and brittle (African hair, in particular), or thin, fine hair that gets bogged down and greasy by products that are too moisturizing, or flyaway and static-y with ones that aren't moisturizing enough. That's not me, in either case...my hair's pretty low maint.
My hair doesn't really respond differently to different shampoos or conditioners. The only thing that makes a difference for me is the weather...if it's humid or dry out. But products don't really seem to make a difference, other than level of perfume and how long the scent stays.
I don't really get buildup problems (I also use no hair products), but I don't wash and condition my hair daily, either.
I forgot what shampoo and conditioner I used before I stated coloring my hair though I know that it wasn't suave.
