Personally don't like dreads. On an episode of "Extreme Makeover" (the one that makeover people, not homes) they had a woman with dreads. It took them hours to get out the dreads. The stylist told her that the reason why her hair weighed so much is because her dreads were filled with dead hair that had long since separated from her scalp and was tangled up in her dreads. Don't go dreads. Do what's natural for your hair; Curley, wavy, straight, or afro. It'll be healthier for you and your hair and scalp.

I don't know, but if you do get them get them the right way and make sure you get them tightened every few months or it will look nasty. look up some braiding and dreading salons and ask them. They will know what is best.

Well yes, that is basically what dreading is. If the OP wants dreads, that is his personal decision. He didn't ask if they were nasty or not, he asked how to get it. Dreads are healthy for your hair and scalp if kept up well. It certainly is healthier than using chemicals to straighten/dye/etc. it. Don't get me started on using excessive heat to style hair.

Re-read my post. Where did I mention using chemicals or hot irons? I said to do what's natural for your hair.

Google is your friend:

Hair Braids | Weave | Curls | Dreads Cincinnati, OH - Makin Waves (http://www.makinwavesincincy.com/ - broken link)

If you're starting to wear this style you need to go to a professional first or else your head will end up looking like a nasty mess.

I found this website too.

http://www.knottyboy.com/

YouTube has videos also. Check that out.

Um, I never said you did, thankyouverymuch. That was a part of my own opinion. People do much worse to their hair than dreading. In fact, dreading is one of the most "natural" styles there is, since you just love for hair to be in its "natural" state. LOL Some people, I swear.
