I'm trying to figure out how long the "summer" season goes on. What happens to the tourist part of VB in the fall, the winter, the spring?

We plan on visiting a lot -- we miss the ocean since being in VA -- and I'd love to have a heads up of what to expect.

Thanks!

Alley

During the off season, the ocean front is delightfully less crowded. It is a wonderful time to walk or bike on the boardwalk. Alot of the gift shops close down in the winter. The ocean front area hotels and larger restaurants are open. If you can't find something near the ocean front, there is lots of shopping in the Hilltop area or in the Red Mill area. Golfing is very popular as well. The rest of Virginia Beach doesn't slow down in the off season.

The shops that are open have sales on the t-shirts and other touristy items. Got my dog a boogie board for 4 dollars vice the 15 they were asking during the season.

The off season is a wonderful time to visit. It is much less crowded and humid. I would say the off season runs from roughly October to April. Hotel rooms are steeply discounted.

Another added benefit of coming in the off season is that it is immediately apparent which restaurants are tourist traps and which are qualiity, as tourist trap places don't bother to stay open in the off season.
