Default Efficiencies in Virginia Beach- safe?

Hi, I am moving to the Hampton Roads area next week. I am looking for someplace to rent temporarily and saw some efficiencies in Virginia Beach for $800 a mo. Do you know if those are safe? I am a female. If you have suggestions for other temporary rental options let me know. I have been only looking on Craig's List. Thanks for your help!

I just moved to Fairfax County this summer from Ga. (I am a teacher) and this area just isn't what I want for me and my child. (She will be 5 in July '11). Do you think I can find a teaching position there? Are the schools decent for her? ( I can teach where ever). Most importantly, would the pay sustain the cost of living. Right now..I pay 1675 for a 2 bedroom and daycare (praise GOD it's her last yr) is 267 a week.

Thank you in advance for pointing me in possible directions.

go to greatschools.net and see which schools are rated better because good schools are hit and miss

and on a teachers salary you could live decently here... nothing fancy at all. rent for a 2 bedroom can run high if you live near the beach or a really nice area. but you can easily find a 2 bed for 900 a month. maybe even 800 depending on your standards.

Where in VA Beach? I think you'll have a hard time being in a good area of VAB for that price.

From a teacher:

Schools in VAB are great, but you'll be tight at the very least to find a place. We paid 1100$ for a not so great 2 bedroom in jet noise central. We just decided to buy. It's hard to find a teaching job in this area right now. I know several people with a MA/MS plus several years experience who were unable to find a job for this school year. Plus no one is really leaving, and most are putting off retirement. Also we haven't gotten a raise in 3 years.

Not sure but the poster has a Norfolk zip not VAB. Not sure you could find that in Norfolk either.
