My wife and I are driving to Norfolk to buy a boat this upcoming weekend. Need recommendations for a clean, safe pet friendly motel anywhere within a 30 minute ride to Norfolk. Thanks in advance, Emilio

Your best bet is to call around. Now that it is the off season a lot of the chain hotels are more flexible.

This webpage lists pet friendly facilities in the Va. Beach area, including Norfolk:
DogFriendly.com's City Guide: Virginia Beach Area, Virginia

I noticed that the Marriott property charges a nonrefundable $100 extra for a pet. Hopefully, there are other places that are not so expensive.

Good luck.

We've used Red Roof Inn a lot when we travel with our dog. No extra deposit, you just have to tell them at check-in that you have a dog. If you make your reservation online, there's a place to check that you have a pet. There's a Red Roof Inn on Greenwich St (very close to the Norfolk/VB city limit yet easy to get to) and one in Chesapeake on Westlake Rd.

If you want to check around, here are a couple of websites that I've used that were helpful.
DogFriendly.com - Travel Guide for Dogs of ALL Sizes!
If you find a facility through their site, they recommend that you call first to verify the information. Oops! Sorry, I just realized that the link is the same one posted by TN Lily. Ah well... see? We both have "lily" in our screen names. Great minds think alike and all that, you know.

I've used this one once before. It was okay - Dog, Cat & Other Pet Friendly Hotels at Petswelcome.com

Motel 6 is another one where pets are always free, but I only found one Motel 6 in Norfolk. Don't stay there. That area can be kind of rough at times.
