Just bought the Official Hawaii Driver's Manual at Target. There are two tests in the back. One is called General Driving Test Questions consisting of 171 multiple choice questions. The other test is the Practice Test Questions and Answers. There are 52 multiple choice questions with pictures. Which one is closer to the actual written test? Tell me the second one...please...because otherwise I need to study more.

Mahalo!!

Quick answer: the second one. But you need to study more. Sorry. The towing, braking, and sidewalk questions are all likely to be on there.

Best of luck.

Thanks, whynot. The second one was pretty easy but I will take your advice and study the other section. Some of the questions are pretty funny.

I found the Hawaii driver's test to be the easiest one I've taken. I never do well on the California test, did poorly on North Carolina test and did OK on a couple of others. The Hawaii test made the most sense to me. The California test feels like it's full of trick questions and tons of questions about trucks on hills. Anyway, I think you'll find this one to be pretty easy.

The book and three sets of tests are online at the Hawaii.gov website. Reading through the manual once then going through all of the tests is good prep for the test. The rules on how to deal with pedestrians in various kinds of walkways was the only thing I found unique to Hawai'i.

And the test, I agree, is the easiest I've ever taken. It took me less than 10 minutes, and I only missed one question... a multiple choice with answers: A or B or both... I answered "both," correctly, according to the study materials, but was told it was the incorrect answer. When I protested, I was told... "we know there are errors in the official answers, but don't worry about it. You passed."

Welcome to Hawai'i!

Hey, does everyone have to take a test, even if you're just getting a license because you've moved? I've moved to several states and have had to get driver's licenses in most of them but have not had to take a test since I got my first one over 20 years ago! I know...study.

Yes, you have to take the test, but its' easy (which may also help to explain the severe lack of driving knowledge here).

One question: Do they issue your Hawaii driver's license on the spot (assuming you pass)? I am traveling to the mainland soon and I don't want a hassle renting a car with a "temporary" license. Thanks!
