What are some of the best resorts to stay at to get the feel for Tropical Hawaii? I want to try first Embassy Suites. embassysuiteswaikiki.com. December 2015 Time frame....
If you want the feel of tropical HI then do not go to a resort....go to VRBO and rent a place in the jungle.
That's what I was thinking.
Do you want the tropics or the tropical feel? There is a difference.

See if you are interested in staying here? Tropical Waters ? Welcome!
The North shore is where you can find what you are looking for.
If I wanted to get away to a quiet place. This is where I would look into.
Might cost a bit?

People may think I'm joking with this but in my many visits to the islands i only stayed twice in resorts and both times I hated it...but it all depends on what you are looking to get from your vacation.

I generally work over 60 hours/week. When I go on vacation I want to waited on with room service, pool service, rest and relaxation. The last thing I want to do is grocery shopping and do my own cooking. Give me the Four Seasons over a vacation rental any day.
Tropical would have been the Waikikian, but it's not there anymore. Most of Waikiki is now sort of Manhatten Tropical, more glass and concrete buildings than tropics, IMHO. Perhaps Halekulani might feel tropical and it's right on the beach. T'ain't cheap, though.
Also consider that vacation rentals less than 30 days are illegal on Oahu.
I've never heard that. Can you cite? I'm not saying it's not true, I would just like to know.
