Hawaii residents on edge again as Hurricane Olivia heads for the - Honolulu, Hawaii news, sports & weather - KITV Channel 4

Quote:
“Olivia may get even closer than Lane did or directly across the chain, bringing localized damaging winds and possibly intense rain fall, flooding, very high surf and storm surge. Something we’re really concerned about as Olivia gets close... We want everyone, especially Oahu to the Big Island to be preparing for a possible direct hit from Olivia," Robert Ballard, science and operations officer at Central Pacific Hurricane Center, said.
Apparently, its not expected to remain a hurricane by the time it possibly passes over, but, even as a tropical storm, it could bring some see more damage to those parts that weren't really impacted by Hurricane Lane. Hopefully all are all stocked up and ready!

The news has mainly focused on the hurricane headed for the East coast, yet I have also watched with some alarm Olivia making a beeline for the islands.

Of course, the eye of Lane passed south of the islands, with the part that caused the flooding being, as is usual with hurricanes, on the northeast side of the storm.

Perhaps, by striking directly on the islands, much of the heavier rain will stay offshore, north of said islands.

For those interested, here is the link to the hurricane center:

Nevertheless, islanders must plan for the worse.

This storm might sneak up on us and cause a lot of Damage, and starting to slow down it's track west towards the State.
Be safe and like has been repeated. Be prepared.

I have three 24 bottle cases of water and enough food to last for a good while. While I wouldn't expect the fallout to be too bad, I want to be prepared just in case.

It's a tropical storm now, but the last thing Kauai or Hilo needs is more water.

A reminder that a tropical storm can do enough damage on it's own, and can have winds up to 73 mph.

I hate losing communications. A radio ,crank , batteries.
I hate being in a multi unit building with careless people and candles & propane when power is out.
Do you have a big garbage can full of water to use to flush if the system fails?

Nobody on Oahu seemed to really take this one seriously - no lines at the stores, plenty of water, and no lines at the gas stations - at least that I could see.

Hopefully a non-event.

Nope.
Since your original post contained no queries and was merely a statement that you hoped all were prepared, it dosent lend itself to much usefulness.
Got some questions you want answered?
