And if you stay in Waikiki like most tourists do and want to rent a car and keep it overnight, be prepared to pay $25/night and up for parking in hotel.
But unlike NYC or San Francisco, there are still free parking spaces available in Waikiki. But hardly any kama'aina will tell you where they are.
Claire, just go to a farmer's market and browse. The sellers will be happy to help you chose some fruits (as they say here). White Viper is technically right, but you should still try all of his suggestions plus apple bananas, lilikoi (passion fruit), rambutan, egg fruit, star fruit, dragon fruit, and breadfruit (ulu).
Thanks to Scientist Dennis Gonsalves..he brought my favorite fruit back...
They all but disappeared off the Produce sections on the Mainland ...(well in the Northeast anyway) mid 1990s to 2006 or so.
We Could only get those big Mexican ones that looked like war clubs
Thanks guys for your help. Unfortunately, my friend has a family emergency so that we could not travel to Honolulu. Thankfully, our tickets may be rescheduled. We have 10 days to pick the new date.
Because we are students, we only have August or December (May finals, June and July flying home, September till late November school).
What do you recommend? Which is better? August or December? I need a sunny month, not cloudy or rainy...
August is high season and hence one of the most expensive times to come. Generally dry unless a hurricane lurks in the area.
December can be rainy since it is rainy season (this winter has been awful) and gets really expensive towards xmas and NYE - but, certainly warmer than most of the mainland.
