If HA can't expand to longer ranges like Colorado, Texas, etc. then they will have to try and take share from legacy carriers at LAX and SFO.
With 3 daily flights to LAX, 1 to Long Beach, 1 to SFO, 1 to San Jose, and 1 to Oakland - you are already pushing the Hawaiian Airlines capacity limits. Then you have, arguably, the worst frequent flier program of all the airlines.
Now that Southwest is entering Hilo and Kauai interisland markets they have effectively busted Hawaiian's monopoly. I've heard people say they won't fly on Hawaiian when they match Southwest's prices because they have bitter memories of Hawaiian exploiting them. I wonder if they will change their mind the first time a mainland flight delay inconveniences them.

It was pointed out to me that Hawaiian Airlines leases 12 of their 24 dual aisle A330s. When they begin deliveries of their Dreamliners, they may just return the A330s at the end of their leases and keep the corporate-owned A330s.
This winter HA plans to all their foreign destinations with the A330, and also to SFO, LAX, LAS, SEA, BOS, JFK. The Dreamliners are not scheduled to be delivered until 2021.
While the Dreamliners might replace the A330s to JFK and BOS, primarily they will be used on foreign routes like Sydney, Brisbane, possible expansion opportunites include Melbourne, Hong Kong, Singapore and London.
In February 2019, Hawaiian Airlines flew these routes exclusively with the A330 (278 seats). The first number is miles.

I like Southwest for sure all flights but flying to Hawaii from the West Coast or even further so awful to me. It’s nice to have the option to spring for first or business-class using painfully accrued miles from all the awful business trips I’ve had to take
Alaska Airlines seems to be the first to blink in the Southwest entry -
Alaska dropping San Francisco and Sacramento to Kona flights......
Southwest has not announced direct competition with these flights, although they are introducing flights to Kona from OAK and SJC. Alaska is maintaining their flights to Kona from both OAK and SJC. UA was Alaska's competition at SFO. It is not clear if the dropped flights were performing poorly before Southwest even entered the market.
Kona Nonstops

Then they didn't blink, they just dropped poor performing flights.
Ah, just a coincidence then....
