Default What was your cost of moving to Hawaii from U.S. mainland

The cost of living, settling down, and unexpectd/unplanned things.

Did employer provide any relocation assistance?

Were you able to claim tax deduction for your moving expense to Hawaii?

I would think all these things would be different for each person depending on how much stuff they bring, where they bring it from and if they have an employer before moving. Tax deductions only work in some instances. I don't think there would be enough similarities between each person's experience for you to have a lot of useful data.

Some folks ship over all their stuff in a huge forty foot container and bring multiple pets and people as well as three or four cars. Other folks crew on sailboats leaving from the West Coast and bring a duffle bag of belongings. So, the first person is paying tens of thousands of dollars to get here and the second one is (if they are lucky) being paid to crew on the boat on the way here.
