I think that's HGEA union and not HSTA union. The teachers got an 8% pay cut by getting less hours. Of course, that now means families have to figure out where their kids will be now that they won't be in school during that time. Seems not many folks noticed that teacher furloughs = student furloughs. A lot like folks don't notice the difference between health care and health insurance but that's a different can of worms.

The union for profs in the UH system is voting on whether to accept a 5% cut (along with other concessions). But it's a non-binding vote... union members (which is not all profs, only the ones who filled out the union membership card) are expressing their opinion to the union leadership.

As hotcatz said, the K-12 teachers have already accepted 17 furlough days per year, which amounts to about an 8% pay cut.

So the UHPA voted resoundingly to reject the last ,best , final offer from UH.

What would be the next step ? Strike?

I don't think we're there yet. UHPA has an "evergreen" clause in the previous contract, which essentially says that the contract stays in place until a new one is negotiated. So the board can't impose a contract (the "LBFO" language was an empty threat), and the union can't strike. Profs continue to work under the old contract until a new one is signed. If the board tries to enforce the contract, the union will take them to court, where the evergreen clause has already been upheld once.
