I was just enrolled into the medicade spin down program paying $303 a month, also I have Medicare due to my multipule sclerosis disability. I have been on medicade for 5 years now and never have I payed a single dime. Is there any special programs to help me pay the $303 a month or will Medicare help with any costs? I see multipule specialists a month but I don't have the $303 a month in order to see any of my doctors.

What changed in your economic situation that you no longer qualified for straight Medicaid and were required to enroll in a Medicaid spenddown, instead?

Okay, first of all, if you receive SSDI, you are automatically eligible fore Medicare after 2 years from the date of your disability according to Social Security. So, lets say that according to ss you became disabled in June 2014, but started receiving benefits in Nov 2014 (5 month waiting period). You will be eligible for Medicare in June 2016.

Medicare has costs associated with it also. Hard telling what those will be in 2016 though.

Adriane is right that every state is different as far as Medicaid/Medical Assistance goes. I would revisit all of the numbers used with the county worker, and bring your husband or someone familiar with your finances to make sure everything was input correctly. Then, ask the worker what to do. You may be eligible for an aca plan with subsidy that would cover major expenses for less per month. You are correct that this is not the best of all worlds.

Good luck.

Medicaid rules follow both federal and state guidelines not just one; so they may differ according to which state to live in.

I am single and now disable. I've worked all my life and now I cannot. I hate not being able to work, believe me I'd be better off if I could. When I worked I have great insurance. Please don't get me wrong, I am thankful for Medicare and SSI but now I'm on a spend down why? I have nothing, no assets. Because of spend down I have to pay $1,808. a year. I get $904. a month. After rent and other expenses I can't afford this. I bring in $151. above limits.. I can't help that I collect more then some, that's what working hard with minimum wages all my life gets me.. I feel I'm being punished for working!!!
Plus, I qualify for QMB, how is it then that I even have a spend down?? This whole thing is a.
GIANT MESS !!!
