My wife is turning 65 in November 2017. She is currently on Medicaid for 4 years now. She has Medicare Plan Plan A and Plan B. She has applied and been accepted under United Healthcare Supplement Ins. My wife has colon cancer and completed CHEMO in May this year. My question is will there be a waiting period (3 mos) on anything that may be related to the colon cancer? Thanks. Already sent an email to UH and no response yet.

No waiting period if she enrolls during her 6-month Medigap open enrollment period. Read this:

Also, did she select a Medicare Part D drug plan ?

And just FYI, Medicare has PARTS A, B, C, D. Medigap Supplements have PLANS A thru N. BTW, which letter plan did she choose ?

Hopefully she chose a good supplement plan as well she should have Medicare Part A, B , and D and then a good supplement plan. Plan F no deductible is the best, G is also good though both of those are the most expensive but basically cover everything at no additional cost.

On further thought, if she is already covered by Medicaid, it is quite possible although she is enrolled in Medicare Parts A & B, she is also a dual eligible and Medicaid will continue to pick up what Medicare doesn't after age 65 - which means she doesn't need a Medigap - unless she no longer wants the Medicaid affiliation.

Medicare signup when approaching 65?

Also, read this - Medigap G v. F:

Should I move from F supplement to G?

If she decides to leave Medicaid, she should get a Medigap G - most companies charge in excess of the Part B deductible ($183) annually for an F. Otherwise, the plans are identical.
