I am about to sign up my husband for Medicare. He will be 65 at the start of 2018. How long does it take to receive the Medicare card after he applies?
Assuming his birthday is February 10, does Medicare start on Feb. 1, or does he wait until Feb. 10 to use Medicare?
Will Medicare bill me in January for his February start date, or will they bill me in February or March?

Thank you for any insight you can provide.
His Medicare will be in force starting Feb 1st. Assuming he's collecting SS, they'll reduce his check for the monthly Medicare payment starting with his February SS check. Hope this helps!
LookingatFL - I am doing the same thing right now, for my Hubby. You will be receiving a letter from Medicare about 3 months out; his just arrived. Since my Hubby's is a month before yours, we are going to do our best to not schedule any appointments or fill any prescriptions until his birthday has passed, just because I have read about billing code errors happening. But I am sure most places are used to patients starting on Medicare and the offices always ask you about any medical plan changes. And be sure to keep the enrollment confirmation # they give you.
I am reading everything, and researching lots of choices. We live in a metro area which has many choices available, along with several employer supplement choices, too.
MelssaKayLife, I don't think he needs a Medigap plan. He is retired from the military so will have TriCare For Life as his secondary insurance. I am told that will act like a Medigap plan. I am also told that the change from TriCare to TriCare For Life is automatic once his Part A and Part B start.
HollyhockGarden, and TheEmissary, thank you.
