Autoimmune diseases are when your body attacks itself. I know that Lupus often involves something that looks like a rash on the face, but you didn't mention any other symptoms like joint pain. I'm not suggesting that you have an autoimmune disease, but you might want to do some research on it.

What I read in your post; if it's been bad since she moved in; yes; I'd say it could be related to her. You use the same bathroom (toilet/shower) as her. I'd start bleaching it when I had to use it.

I'd vac my mattress too. Clean up whatever you can in your own area.
I really hope you find a solution to her because I could not live like that! Hopefully she's not paying rent & will be evicted.

Discoid Lupus was exactly what I thought when I read about her rash.
My hub never had the face rash; it started on his ankles; then his back. The dermatologist biopsied it & it came back as Lupus.

I have a friend who's mother is alergic to darn near everything....I give her produce from my garden as she super sensitive to the produce in the store (pesticides, chemicals?), she is highly sensitive to most soaps, deoderants, even some clothes, a very hard life to live....hope you can figure it out...I've found that the women who work in the health food store here have a wealth of information and knowledge....they'd be my first stop.

What type of joint pain is involved? Sometimes I wake up with an achey neck or knees, but I've always attributed it to my mattress and/or sleeping in uncomfortable positions. Sometimes my ankles hurt but I think its a combination of a lot of walking in the city + high arches and unsupportive shoes. I'll look into other lupus symptoms.

I have a whole host of autoimmune diseases (SLE, RA, etc). I also have rashes that are NOT the typical Lupus rashes that are not cleared up by steroids.

It is called seborrheic dermatitis and there is a cream that clears it is very quickly. There are many different pictures available online if you wish to see if the rashes are similar to yours. If you were told that you had 'cradle cap' as an infant then this is highly probable as a DX.

I'm not 100% sure I know the difference between the two... I'd say it's a dull throb/ache that gets stronger when I try to move (bend, stretch, etc). Not all the time or every day, but enough to acknowledge it.

I have looked into/suspected it might be SD on my scalp... between that and psoriasis and a few other conditions that escape me at the moment, I'm not completely sure which one it might be. Does SD occur on other spots on the body? And do we have any idea what causes it? I'm the kind of person who isn't satisfied with throwing a patch on something, I like to get to the root of it and take care of the problem at its core. Unfortunately, most of the time they have no clue what causes a lot of these skin conditions... they only know how to temporarily make it go away.

My first thought was lupus too... there are different kinds of lupus and one kind only affects the skin. It also affects the scalp. To OP, you should probably have an ANA blood test and (if possible) a biopsy to rule out lupus.

I am not certain why SD occurs (my Doc did explain it but I do not remember the hows and whys- I tend to remember the life threatening stuff first), but the cream works on the skin and scalp (TMI_ I get big, huge sores on my scalp); and there is a shampoo that really helps (but it really stinks- the smell does go away after your hair is dry).

Yes, the rash can occur on different places but the most common are the scalp, between the eyebrows, on the cheeks (right below the eyes), around your lips and in the folds of skin running from your nose to around your lips.

I thought that the rashes and sores were a part of my SLE but it wasn't. I would explore the SB angle before starting down the SLE path. Rather than getting an ANA right away you may wish to get a simple SED rate looked at; it will show if you have any inflammation which may help rule out if further tests are warranted.

I wish you good health and happiness.
