Fine needle aspiration is a biopsy procedure to investigate a lump in the breast. I have to go back, and have this every year after my annual breast exam. The first time I was sweating with fear, now I'm used to it .... I am very large breasted and have dense tissue .... Are you similar ? That may explain it ...
Don't worry.
I don't think I could handle this every year, even if it is easier to get through than I thought. I always joke and say I have all the boobs in the family (38C) as both my mom and sister are very small. Lucky me.
Toosie, Thanks for your reply sharing your experience. It helps me understand what to expect. I can only hope now that they are referring me to a good/caring doctor. Guess I'll find out when I go for a consult.
I have had a needle biopsy and surgical biopsy. For me the needle biopsy was virtually painless. I've also had my wisdom teeth out which was one of the most painful things I've ever experienced. On a scale of 1 to 10 the wisdom teeth was a 9, the biopsy a 1. In fact I don't even remember pain because they numb the area locally beforehand, just a slight discomfort. You feel a slight pressure where they insert it.
I had my biopsy done this past Wednesday, and I have to say I survived. I just felt the pinch and sting of the needle. The second needle (he did 2 biopsies) was a little more uncomfortable. When he was taking the biopsy, to me it almost felt like little electric zaps. That's the only way I can describe how I felt it.
I have to say I was laying on that table for about 2 hours, still. My torso is finally starting to get back to normal from being in one position for so long. When I move my arm up so far to reach up, it hurts some. I believe it's from the one closest to my underarm.
I go back to the surgeon on Wednesday for a follow up for the results. Hoping they are good.
Thanks everyone for your words of advice and encouragement!!
Oh ya - I think electric zaps are common also. I forgot about those associated with the biopsy but definitely had them after surgery. They felt similar but after surgery the dr said it was just muscle and tissue rebuilding. Sometimes it would ripple through like a mild electric caterpillar.
Glad you're recovering well and will hope for good results for you next week
