My 91 year old Aunt fell at her nursery home 4 days ago, she broke her humorous bone(upper arm). She was rushed to the emergency room and was in such pain they couldn't take all of the x-rays. They admitted her to the hospital, due to her age and health. She is on Cumadin and has dementia and only gets around by a wheelchair. They did put her arm in a sling in the ER. When I arrived the next morning someone, I believe the nurse had cut off the sling. The ortho doctor says he will do surgery but it won''t be for 5-6 days. So my Aunt has been laying in a bed with her broken arm just laying there beside her and she can't move. I can't help but feel this is in-humane treatment. We have had to fight them to get her a pain killer on a regular basis, they want her to ask for it (my aunt who has dementia). we pointed out look at her purple bruised and swollen arm and tell me that wouldn't cause you pain! Is this normal treatment? I can't believe she has to wait this long for surgery and that they expect her to lay there and not move....HELP!
