Always looking for ways to be less subservient to the industrial infrastructure, I decided I would learn to swallow pills without water. The first time I tried it, six pills, I just worked up a bit of saliva for a few seconds, and they went right down. Rats. Now I need to construct another challenge for myself.
Nice to know that if I ever need to take a pill, there is no necessity to stop the car at a convenience store and buy something to drink for 99c. Or, go to any other trouble to try to seek out any water.
That is just gross, swallowing your own spit just to take a pill and save one tiny minute fraction of industrial infrastructure.
Also it is not really safe to be taking pills while driving because your focus is on swallowing your own spit instead of driving.
I wonder though how you are going to fix things without killing everyone around you when one of those pills gets caught in your throat and you don't have any water or enough spit to get it down completely?
Swallowing pills without water is not even healthy. Water helps medication pass from your mouth to your stomach and small intestine and to be absorbed to give the desired action.
Also, the medication could damage the kidneys or lead to kidney stones if too much of it reaches the kidney at the same time. Water helps to flush the extra medication so that too much of it does not go through the kidneys at once.
Swallowing medications without enough water may even prevent the medicine from acting properly and can lead to side effects such as burns in the throat, esophagus, or stomach ulcers or irritation.
Always take your medication with plenty of water and pay attention to whether or not it needs to be taken with or without food also. You might think it's nice to be able to take your medication without water now, but you may pay for it later. Think in terms of your long-term health.
I've been watching Nurse Jackie- the show about the addict nurse. She is constantly popping hands full of pills with no water and I gag every time she does it. She can be standing in her own kitchen and doesn't even grab a glass of water. She walks down the sidewalk or hall swallowing a fist full of pills. Very very strange to me but then of course the show is pretty strange anyway.
I always take aspirins and other medication with warm water, the warmer the better, but not as hot as coffee. I don't know if it really makes a difference or not, I just feel like the medication dissolves quicker and it starts doing what it's intended to do in quicker amount of time than taking it with cold water.
No. I can't even swallow most pills or capsules with water. I have to take them with food, even if it's just a banana or something as small as a spoonful of sweet potato.
