I went to my annual physical today and what the doctor told me cracked me up- but he was DEAD serious. Here is what he said: "You can tell you are eating a healthy diet with one simple test. When you take a bowel movement does it float or sink? If your poop sinks, you need to change your diet. If your poop floats, you are getting plenty of fiber and eating healthy!"

Listen for the sound of your stool as it hits the water in the toilet. Floating stools are often an indication of high fat content, which can be a sign of malabsorption, a condition in which you can't absorb enough fat and other nutrients from the food you’re ingesting. It’s associated with celiac disease or chronic pancreatitis.
I used to be a "floater", but starting about 10 years ago, I became a "sinker". Around that same time, I was having a lot of abdominal issues (which turned out to be recurrent bladder infections and spasms). At one point I mentioned this change in my bowel habits to a doctor and he just looked at me like I was crazy and said it was not something to be concerned about at all.
ETA: And congrats on winning the "C-D thread title of the day" award as far as I'm concerned, because I took one look at this title, and even before reading it, knew exactly what you were talking about.
Mine thread right through the "bowl hole" most of the time. But I have read it both ways over the decades, whether it should sink or float.
In response to the poster's comments about checking afterwards, that is something people learn to do when we start developing health issues. What comes out can reveal a lot.
agree and how do you explain that some float and some don't? I really think there are more things to concern ourselves with...
