I tried it...upset my intestinal system something awful...and did nothing for my hot flashes. I've come to the conclusion that carrying a fan around is safer (for me) than taking a bunch of herbs or hormones! So, that's what I've been doing for the last 6 years. Yep...6 years...and no sign of them stopping!

It's a pain, but minor compared to having tummy problems!

I've heard about potential liver failure; that would be a problem! Also that the purity isn't exactly guaranteed. Have been trying soy isoflavones for a few weeks; no side effects, but also only moderately effective; I have slightly fewer hot flashes, but they're just as intense.

I'm tempted to try it too. I'll be getting whatever brand at the supermarket has the USP label because then you're guaranteed that whatever is in it, is exactly what they claim is in it. It doesn't guarantee that it'll work, but it does guarantee that it really is black cohosh.

I'm getting flashes sometimes every 10 minutes in a 2-hour period, then nothing for another 2 hours - then it starts all over again. A fan won't do me any good - these flashes are head to toe and I work retail. At home I just put up with the flashes because a fan on my face means I can't see to read (it's an instinct - I shut my eyes when there's wind blowing directly into them), and I might as well just take something to make me sleep all night for all the good that does me.

If it helps with your decision one way or another: My nurse-practitioner considers it a useful alternative as long as her patient has no history of liver disease and isn't "at risk" for it. So - alcoholics and the morbidly obese, she wouldn't recommend it to.

I read something about not taking a drink while on it. Who doesn't take a drink? Ever??? Not me! And especially not now...

The soy isn't working? I have been using the soy for about a week now and that does seem to help a bit. I'm taking 50 mg a day. Yeah, I'm still getting the hot flashes but they don't seem to be as intense. I may up the dose.

As for black cohosh, it didn't really do anything for me.

It's reduced them, but not eliminated them. Still disruptive! Just as intense, but less frequent. And I'm taking 80 mg. a day! I may increase the dose (I think you can go up to 150 mg.) and give it more time before trying the black cohosh. A friend swears by that!

What worked for me is eating oatmeal for breakfast, a couple servings and not the instant with sugar and also eliminating as much sugar from my diet as I could. I have talked with others and it has helped them. I had a list of foods, similar to this: How to Increase Progesterone Naturally: 7 Healthy Solutions

I tried the wild yam cream for awhile and it seemed to help but then again, I read some warnings about it. You just have to weigh your options depending on how severe it is.

As I said in another thread, I too wild yam both in pill & cream form before I realized that it was having an effect on my blood sugar. It lowered it to the point I was very shaky. Not good.

I think every woman is different and I don't think one thing will work for everyone. It is a matter of finding what works for YOU!! Unfortunately, I have been trying to find what works for me for YEARS now.
