Its the holidays and it would be almost impossible to get an appointment with a doctor and even if I were to see one, what are the chances he has the equipment to do tests to check if I have peptic ulcer, hernia, or something else. How do I know in advance whatever doctor I go to, would even agree to order these tests for me. He would probably sent me to an specialist for tests, for days of waiting and jerking around.

I still have this tender feeling on my left upper abdomen, supposedly where the stomach is It comes and goes, it seems to get worse at night, if I stick out my belly, the burning/pain feeling gets worse, not sure what that means, why would it get worse when I stick out my belly?. It may be an ulcer since I only started experiencing this right after my recent acid reflux episode that was triggered by soda, alcohol, and other stuff

If I go to the ER with a complain of some pain on my upper abdomen, they'll probably do any test imaginable and figure out what I actually have. I would be left with a big bill though, but at least I know for a fact I don't have anything serious

I just can't deal with all this bureaucracy and waiting with a regular doctor. Would a primary doctor even do an endoscopy when I visit him? He would probably just say try these PPI or whatever, that's not good enough for me

You'll probably end up owing thousands.

As long as you're not in so much pain that you can't sleep (and anxiety about your health keeping you up doesn't count), why not take something for your stomach, PPI or H2 blocker or even just some Tums? Most people would wait until their insurance kicked in, especially if it's less than two weeks, if they're not having so much pain that it's interfering with their lives. The reason so many stomach remedies are available over the counter is that many people will have occasional stomach pain that can be relieved with one of those remedies.

No, they will only do enough testing to confirm you don’t need to be admitted to the hospital and you’re not in any immediate danger of dying. Then they’ll discharge you with a recommendation to follow up with your primary care doctor or a gastroenterologist, and hand you a bill for several thousand dollars.

It’s called an emergency room for a reason: it’s there to treat true emergencies. What you have isn’t emergent. Call your regular doctor and ask for an appointment.

When they triage you, you're probably going to be at the end of the line with the weak symptoms you're describing.

They are not going to do the tests you think they are.

You're not in excruciating pain. You're not throwing up blood.

You go on if you insist, but this sounds like ER abuse to me.

OP, go to your local 'Urgent Care Center'. They're far less expensive than the hospital ER. And they take various insurance plans.

OP has stated that (s)he doesn't have insurance. Suspect (s)he won't be satisfied with the limited (in other words indicated) testing they'll do either at an ER or urgent care.

It sounds like GERD to me. I have had a flare up the last week and as delightful as it has been, I am not sure what the ER can do for me if no blood is coming out anywhere. I have been taking many of the above, ginger tea, probiotics, etc.

The OP needs to see a psychiatrist/mental health professional and get some cognitive behavioral therapy for this. NO it will not be immediate, but it needs to happen. January 1 is in 9 days. That is soon enough.

Thanks guys. I was reading a thread from where a lady when to the ER and they diagnosed her with an ulcer after several tests. If i go and tell them what i think i may be having, why wouldn’t they do a test

Of course id rather not be in debt like that. There is a gastroenterologist like a few miles from where i live. Problem here is first appointment he won’t do any tests i know this is first appointment is always just talking and since a endoscopy may require full sedation, he may not do it even if I schedule the appointment early in the morning and go with an empty stomach

Itd be in the second appointment thats 2 days id have take off in different occasions

As doctors only work monday to friday 9 to 5pm when 99% people are at their jobs. Super convenient and they never work Saturday knowing full well most people would be free on Saturday but what do they care about the inconveniences of patients or if they lose money by taking days off, as long as they get paid.

At least the ER has doctors working there even on holidays
