I'm hoping for some input here to set my mind at ease some. This is my third month on Boniva, I've tried the others but the side affects were worse then the disease, that I could be a candidate for.

Anyways last month my right thigh muscle started with some sharp pain off and on, at times I couldn't walk confidently as I fel that I might fall.

Can you share with me any side affects to Boniva that you may have experienced.

Yikes! Side effects like that are why I avoid prescription medication like the plague. If I were you I'd run to the nearest proven naturopath and if there aren't any in your area, set up a phone appointment with a good one out of your area and have them help you with natural medicines that can rebuild bone WITHOUT side effects. I know some great naturopaths with patients all over the world who could help you and their rates are really reasonable considering their outstanding track record. (They have been curing so-called "incurable" diseases (incurable by western medicine) for 25 years. )They can certainly help you if you are willing to do some work (ie. possibly give up certain foods for a while while you are building yourself back up) . Email me directly and I'll send you their contact info.

Ah thank you, I did found out that my challenge is in my back and I need to do some special exercises which I plan to stick with, after the first set of exercises my pain subsided greatly so apparently it's not the Boniva. I don't like taking drugs have the hardest time remembering them, my first child was a birth control baby fortunatly I was already married and we were ok with it.

First I took Actonel, gave me terrible heartburn..I had to keep a bottle of tums by my bed, in the car and on the kitchen window sill..I switched to Boniva...Same thing..I am off both meds now and the heartburn is getting less..One of the side effects of these meds is esophageal erosion, caused by the heartburn it gives some people..Always read the patient inserts on any new medication you take and be aware of the known side effects and watch to see if you develop any..I continue my calcium+D daily.. and there is also calcium +D in my tums..

I have taken it once and am going to take it every month. I have osteopenia, breast cancer, and am on a drug that leaches the calcium out of my bones. The Boniva was strange. No effects until 36 hours later, when I felt like I had the flu. Aches all over and very sick. Unable to relax. Up all night. I hope I don't have this forever, but i will keep taking it even if i do.

Leg cramps can come from the medication or a potassium problem. Have the doctor check on that and your kidney health if you continue to stay on it.

I was going to say go to askapatient.com but see someone already has. I check out every drug a doctor suggests to me there before I ever swollow the first one.

I have had so many doctors tell me because I am blond headed and blue eyed and Mama had that.. I NEED to be on something. I always turn them down and have for years. I have had the bone desity scan done twice in the last 10 years and it always comes out normal.. without drugs that could eat up my jawbone or God only knows what else.

3 days after i took my first, and only, 1 month dosage i could not walk due to severe pain in my left thight/hip/groin. had to be boniva, as i had taken no other new rx's. the dr that rx'd it said, adamantly, it could not be boniva. went to another dr who ordered xrays then a cat scan, thinking i had arthritis, nothing showed. i've been taking massive quantities of vit. D with massive calcium. seems to be helping me. i want a lawyer to sue! 10 months of painful incapacitation. good luck!

I'm interested in reading these posts, I've been diagnosed with Osteoporosis, I'm a small boned, petite, Caucasion. They haven't put me on anything yet just because we're waiting to see if I have IBS (I'm having terrible issues w/abdominal pain already) - Dr. has said Boniva or Fosamax, I'm worried about taking any meds. but I currently experience severe spinal pain which is where the osteo. is worse. Anyone have any thoughts on the lesser of the evils?

My grandmother who is 80 began Boniva two months ago and it made her wrist swell and become very painful. She asked the Doc and of course he said he didn't think it was due to the Boniva. She is very attentive to what goes on in her body so she is adamant that it was the Boniva.

I think it interesting that other people have joint complaints as well.
