Sooo frustrating. This came out today suggesting that eggs could be associated with heart health. I hate that they threw it back into doubt.
I am frustrated because I thought it was settled science that
- Cholesterol is made in the liver and the reason cholesterol in your food doesn't matter is because your liver cuts back on production of cholesterol once it realizes you are getting it in the diet.
- Cholesterol itself does not bear relation to clogging of the arteries as there are plenty of people who have had heart attacks with low cholesterol numbers.
- Eggs specifically contain vitamin K2 which is proven to keep calcium out of places where it shouldn't be in and in your bones (leading to less hardening of the arteries).
Since getting the green light on eggs I eat about 2 or 3 per day.
I went thru a phase of trying to eat whites only as was being told yolk causes inflammation..well, that didn't last too long.
I will only buy cage free and/or organic and don't pay much attention to the latest research as it changes almost monthly. I don't overdose but I like eggs.
Like all other foods, deli meats, oxilates in spinach..... whatever. Eat it in moderation and you should be fine (unless you have a specific medical condition that counters that).
If you eat 2 or 3 eggs a day, and have no trouble with your numbers, I wouldn't give it a 2nd thought.
(personally, I would add more variety to my diet)

I couldn't read it because I don't have an account. Everything I have read about eggs said that they are good for health, especially the yolk, and there is no scientific reason to not eat them.
So I wonder what that article says. Maybe it's just repeating the old misinformation.
Most of the nutrition in eggs is in the yolk so it makes no sense to eat egg whites.
I tried to eat an egg for breakfast a few times a week. The yolks are really good for you. Good reminder to eat more eggs. (I am not going to be scared away from eating eggs. We already went through this and I thought it was settled.)
I like grab and go for breakfast, so occasionally I'll make a breakfast casserole with eggs, potatoes, ham and cheese (spinach, peppers, etc.).
