Can you drink alcohol with schizoaffective disorder? My old psychiatrist told me one drink a week was ok, but this was years ago. I have not gotten around to asking my new psychiatrist. But literally everyone I met in the hospitals with schizoaffective drink alcohol. I stopped drinking because I wanted to recover fully from my last hospitalizing. I would like to drink again to be honest, just casually not to get drunk. Just looking for advice, I plan to ask my psychiatrist when I see him next month. Thanks.

As usual, the answer probably is "it depends". Depends on you individually, on medications you may be taking and how much/how often you plan to drink. A call to your MD might give you a more appropriate (for you) and quicker answer.

Sure, you can drink. It won't better you, but you certainly can drink alcohol.

Could it kill you? Sure.

Will it eventually? It could.

Just like drinking gasoline, it's a choice that has risks associated with it.

This, I can tell you. There isn't one single person, on this planet, who has "made things better" by drinking alcohol. Nope, not a one of 'em. (Altho, there are millions, that have made things worse, with the use of alcohol.)

Jails, prisons and graveyards are full of 'em.

Go ahead, roll the dice, I guess.

Are you medicated? If yes, I’m pretty sure it’s discouraged.

and this

My MIL still drinks even after being prescribed some serious anti-psychotics and other meds for MI, and it's not making anything any better. She gets the usual little bump of hahahaha fun when she's buzzed but it usually ends up setting her in a downward spiral soon enough.
