I see children outweighing me on a pretty regular basis. . . so no I think zero chance it is turning.

A bit off topic but if you want to join a gym, watch out for what they ask you to sign and the information they demand from you. I was checking out one where a requirement was to give them your credit card and checking account info.

Never heard of a gym that did not require payment info.

I think the weight loss drugs are a game changer. I've known a good number of people who used to be really big shrink down to normal size in the last 2 years.

That being said, it's a band aid - not the ultimate solution. I think a lot of it boils down to:

1. People not taking time for food; to learn how to cook, to sit down rather than get carryout / fast food...
2. People being bad at disciplining themselves and telling themselves no. There is every opportunity to be very healthy today, just most people choose rich meaty dinners over a bowl of soup. Everyone knows better, they just don't do anything about it.

I had a thread about this over in the great debates section, but essentially in today's world, the survival struggle is against your own self - those that master it thrive and those that don't hit the grave early. And these things tend to clump - being overweight, no college degree, lack of consistent job experience, lack of dating success etc. they all kind of compound.
