Anyone else suffer from not enough sleep? I have no trouble getting to sleep, but can't seem to stay asleep after just a few hours. Most nights I get three to four hours. Sometimes (if I'm lucky) I'll get five hours, but it's in wake/asleep mode.

I'm active during the day both mentally and physically, don't take naps, eat as healthy as I can, etc, but nothing seems to help me get a good nights sleep.

Anyone have any tips, herbal remedies (I've tried a few)... anything that has worked for them? Please note I don't take prescription pills, and rarely take OTC drugs.

I'd be grateful for any and all advice! THX

Each of us are different so your mileage may vary, but the days I do a gym work-out (treadmill & machines) and take a calcium and a magnesium pill before bed-time are the nights I sleep deeply and well.

But if I skip the gym, it's either can't fall asleep until the wee hours or toss n turn or wake up during the night or too early. I think the gym and the calcium/magnesium take off the edge off my nervous energy and let me sleep.

Another thing I've noticed is that I have trouble sleeping if I'm dehydrated, so I make an effort to get enough water during the day and early evening.

I won't go into the obvious like no caffeine after noon and little sugar for dinner, little alcohol (has sugar, dehydrates), etc.

Hope this helps...

Have you tried Melatonin? I've been having bad insomnia; sleeping pills don't help it; started taking Melatonin a month ago; it's been helping.

In addition I also bought the stuff called Midnight; it works.

I can't remember your age.. but is it possibly peri-menopause?
It's the cause of my insomnia.. that plus pain

I have always been an insomniac. I have tried everything that has been mentioned, and none of it has worked, except that I sleep a little bit better when I do a lot of aerobic exercise, but, it's still interrupted sleep. I currently take 3 different meds, along with calcium and magnesium & V C that should knock me out for a whole night, but they don't. What I usually do is stay up 2 nights, sleep 1. Every time I've been in the hospital to give birth, the nurses have always asked if I ever sleep, because I've never been asleep when they come in. They said they've never seen anyone like this, who can't seem to sleep much at all, no matter what they give me. I get so tired my body aches, but still can't sleep. I'm hoping someone here will mention something I haven't tried.

If you are not taking them add some B vitamins to your diet. But I would take them early in the day.
Also try to go to sleep and get up at the same time everyday maybe it will help you.
