Can somebody please tell me why the word Hitler/Nazis/Holocaust is mentioned by people/internet/tv on a daily basis?

It was almost a 100 years ago, when can we finally move on?? People are all dead. My dad was even born after the war and he is already old. It is over!

The topic with slavery/racism/discrimation in the US is way more recent and still happening, why does nobody get obsessed over that?

Why do people travel all the way to Berlin to see some leftovers from the Berlin wall instead of traveling through the US and see how afroamerican people STILL get treated badly? Or travel to the East Coast and check out the battlefield memorials? Way cheaper as a trip to Germany and more appropriate!

No matter what movie/show I watch, everywhere I come across Hitler. In Seinfeld, 2 stepbrothers, Simpsons, bridesmaids - EVERYWHERE. Give it a break. We moved on, why can't you?

Highschool kids don't even know the capital of their own state or what they ate yesterday, but they all know about Hitler.

The history channel is packed with Hitler movies, it makes me aggravated. How about slavery movies? Why always point at the Germans? Who cares if Hitler took drugs, had a mental disease or beat up his girlfriend? IT IS OVER.

If German's are so bad people, why do so many people want to be German? Everywhere I go, I hear people say "I am German, too, my greatgreat ... was German". Why do you want to be part of the Naziculture if it is something so bad? Why are you not just happy to be American?

Most people who immigrate to the US want to be citizen. Most people who are born in the US want to be Irish, German, Italian. If you are born in the US, only speak English, you are AMERICAN, sorry!

The Germans have learned from their past. Did the Americans learn from THEIR past?

In Germany you can't be proud to be German, you can't hang up a German flag, you can't march through a city with police escort and speak bad about immigrants, you can't form an antisemitic political group, you can't possess anything that has to do with the WWII time.

We want to move on. Why can't YOU let it rest?

My grandmother's entire family was gassed to death.

Sorry we're not over it soon enough for you.

You came to a history board to complain about people's interest in history?

Why are people not more interested in the American history, like slavery? People are still alive who got discriminated or still do get to feel that not color matters.

I have worked with afroamerican people in Virginia. They get to feel the discrimination every single day and don't blast it all over the internet/tv on a daily basis. And THEY should, to make it stop. Maybe then a multiracial couple wouldn't have to worry walking hand in hand on the streets.

It is bad what has happened back during WWII, but alot of bad stuff also happened during other wars.

Vietnam, Irak, Afghanistan ... why do I hardly ever hear the name Ossama Bin Laden or about other mean people that caused deaths and pain?

I am not saying that nothing bad happened caused by the Germans, I am just saying, why does it have to be on the net/tv on a daily basis? Why does it not get replaced by war stories from more recent wars?

"My grandmother's entire family was gassed to death. Sorry we're not over it soon enough for you."

I am sorry for you loss, you must miss them alot - if you knew them.

My husband is military, there are ALOT of military spouses who recently lost their loved ones. They SHOULD be remembered on a daily basis, because it JUST happened in the last decade and not 80 years ago.

If we would never move on, we all would keep suffering from losses from all wars and all bad stuff that has happened as far back as we hear the stories.

Why can people move on about everything except WWII?

Slavery happened hundreds of years ago. No slaves are alive and likewise no slaveowners are alive either. Shouldent they get over it too?

There are still tons of Holocaust victims, Allied POWs who were held by the Germans & Japanese, World War II veterans, etc still alive. The memories of that time period will be with us for a long, long time to come ... and we must never forget what happened.

There are 30 topics currently on the front page of the History Forum, 23 of which are unrelated to WW II. Are you unable to figure out how to click on one of those other 23?

Why don't you just pursue those things which interest you rather than wasting your time complaining about other people's interests?

Since you are trying to dictate to us what not to discuss, it seems reasonable to ask you to provide us with the topics we should be discussing. To obtain an idea of what does interest you, I looked up your posting history and found that you are participating in topics such as:

Girl allows you to invade her personal space on first date

UGGS: Still popular? Wearing them next Winter?

Lazy husband- HELP!

I want a Boyfriend!

What a woman's Facebook page says about her???

Virginia Beach neighbors impede my driveway

We all now recognize that WW II is a far lesser concern than whether or not your UGGS will still be in style next winter, thank you for setting us straight on what our critical interests should be.

Hear, hear, didn't read it fully, but I agree with your theme and spirit.

Get over it already and find a hobby

Go to the gym, jog 10 miles, you know.

But this board's okay, it's the history forum. It's okay to indulge

Perhaps you should know that Hitler committed suicide in April. 1945, which was almost 67 years ago, and that the Third Reich began in Jan., 1933, 79 years ago. Neither is close to 100 years. The First World War did not even begin until 1914, 98 years ago.
The various "History" channels on cable do seem to be obsesssed with Hitler and his times, and there seems to almost always be a program running with some connection to Der Fuhrer. It must generate viewers, thus ratings, and ad revenues, or they would not continue.
There are still many WWI veterans alive, my 90 year old father being one of them, and interest in WWII, including Hitler, continues to grow. It WAS the greatest event of the 20th Century.

At 90, he was born in 1922. He probably therefore wasn't in WWI, even in one of the dreaded fetus assault divisions, since that ended in 1918.
