The Iron Cross is the most fake medal. Most fakes are pretty bad but still you have dumb people spending lots of money on fakes one's on Ebay.

Most of this cheap fakes come from China and they have no value. An original Iron Cross is made from 3 parts and a fake is made from one part.

The metal on an original is very strong since soldiers would ware their medals on the battle field. The fakes one you can bend the metal with no problem.

The original medal's detail is the best. The fakes detail is very poor.

The black paint on the medal should not go up the side of the medal. There should be open. you can stick a paper sheet between the metal layers. In a fake one the paint goes up on the side because it's all one piece and you cannot stick a sheet of paper.

Finally the Swastika should not have rounded corners.

I hope this helps.

Okay, so you turn over the cross and look for the "Made In The People's Republic" tag.

I have a nice one from WW1. I wouldn't want one with a swastika on it.

There are certainly a lot of fake ICs out there. Are they from China? No idea. Unless you have seen confirmed authentic medals, the new buyer doesn't have anything to compare it to. When in doubt, buy from an established and reputable dealer who offers a money back guarantee.

I'd prefer the Pour le Merite, you never see bikers sporting them.

If something/anything can be faked and a profit obtained from it, China will do it. Literally anything and everything. They are experts at it. It's getting so bad that I almost assume that anything with a brand name or of value that you see on Ebay at a good price, you almost have to assume it's a fake, made in China.
They are faking Epiphone guitars now, that's Gibson's value line. So, essentially, they are faking fakes.
