Several thousand Hungarian Jews marked the 70th anniversary of Nazi Germany’s invasion of Hungary on Wednesday with a memorial service outside the Grand Synagogue in Budapest.
The service, organised by Mazsihisz, the country’s largest Jewish organisation, was the first in a series of events marking the Holocaust, which claimed the lives of some 600,000 Hungarian Jews, most deported to Nazi death camps.
By "grand synagogue" I am assuming they are referring to the magnificent Dohany Street Synagogue in Budapest. It is a majestic Moorish-Revival 19th Century structure. I've seen it. It's beautiful. Interestingly, it's flamboyant architecture served as an inspiration for the Central Synagogue in mid-town Manhattan in New York City.

Yeah, it's quite a shame that the Nazis invaded Hungary just a year before WWII and the Holocaust ended and that some/many Hungarians were all too eager to collaborate with the Nazis in the extermination of the Jews.

For sure there were good and evil Hungarians during that time. Events would show that Hungary picked the wrong cause and paid for it. From ruthless fascism then to abject communism, a double-barreled hit. I could see the demonstration being put on full tilt. As noted, no secret that anti-semitism is there (and perhaps in everybody's faces) in the country. The 'right' is on the upswing.

It's quite a shame, that Nazis were raised to power by international financier elite, that being basically all Jews.
