Do you know the story of David Reubeni?

David Reubeni (1490–1535/1541?) was a Jewish political activist, described by the Shengold Jewish Encyclopedia as "half-mystic, half-adventurer." Although some scholars are reluctant to believe his claims to nobility, citing suspicions of fraud behind such claims[1] (in spite of Reubeni's unrelenting efforts to make an alliance between Christians and Jews against Muslims by the intermediation of the young king, John (João) of Portugal), in November of 1525 he was nevertheless given an audience with the king, accompanied with a letter of recommendation from Pope Clement VII, and had always insisted that he was the son of a deceased monarch (King Suleiman of Ḥabor),[2] and that he was the Minister of that kingdom's War Department, now governed by his elder brother, King Joseph of Ḥabor. According to Reubeni's own story this kingdom had 300,000 "Israelite" subjects. The king of Portugal, impressed by the idea, had initially agreed to supply Reubeni with Portuguese arms, but after five months, Reubeni fell into ill-repute with the king of Portugal, who perhaps distrusted his motives, and was asked by the king to leave his kingdom.[3]

The story of Reubeni is interesting, even he seems to have been a fraud.

While I think the title of the thread is somewhat misleading, I think discussing the "what if" result of Israel actually being established 400 years earlier might be an interesting discussion.

The Ottoman Empire was pretty powerful back then. If there was an Israel back then, there would have been lots of wars, and cool movies made out of them.

If Israel existed 400 years earlier it would not have lasted long, since the US would not have existed at the time and by default would have resulted in Israel not receiving billions of dollars in military aid every year.

If the Ottoman Land Code and Registration Laws of 1858 and 1859 came into existence 300 years earlier, then Jews would've owned more land in the region which at the time were three Sanjaks (Districts). The Sanjaks under the Ottomans were called Jerusalem, Nablus and Acre (there was no Palestine in any direction). Most Jews gravitated to the Sanjak of Jerusalem and most likely the Jews who were expelled from Spain would've gone there instead of North Africa.Jews in the Ottoman Empire enjoyed remarkable prosperity and owning land would've made that prosperity exponentially larger.
