My first memory of a historical event is standing on the driveway with my family and watching Sputnik go overhead. They had announced the time on the news and we stood in the dark until we saw a small light travelling across the night sky. No one said anything, we just watched it until it went out of sight. I was a small child but very aware it was an ominous event. Twelve years later we stood on the same driveway and looked up at the moon. Apollo 11 had landed safely and Armstrong and Aldrin had become American heroes.
Remembering a memory can change it. The next time you remember it, you don't actually know whether you're remembering the original memory or the memory of the memory. Its details can change a lot over the years, and still seem equally real.
I think so. The memory I'm not sure if its real or not is just kind of realizing eyes and light. Close eyelids, ok in the light and seeing red on the inside. Open, is bright.....i don't recall seeing anything besides bright, red and black.
I think babies must develop memories of something early on and then shift. I seem to recall early dreams were very chaotic, like black and white and not pleasant. Later it was more relaxed. I imagine it's those memories that allow children to sleep through the night.
Anyway, I'm certainly open to the above that it may not be real, but I do remember the carpet and light fixtures from around age 1. Odd as I can't seem to remember what I ate last night now...sometimes I wonder if I filled up my harddrive.
Approximately 4.5 years of age. Visiting Washington DC during the springtime and marveling at all of the cherry blossoms.
I also distinctly remember visiting some area indoors (museum?) and being intrigued by some sort of sculpture of a person's head.
My earliest memory was being in my crib, I must have been 2 and I guess I was crying or calling for someone and my grandmother came into the room laid me down and rubbed my back to calm me down.
I remember the a cool wash cloth that I used when I was teething. I remember my mother feeding me farina in my high chair. Maybe when it happens enough times we do remember.

I always wonder about that. Especially when others add their input.

I seem to have a memory of my mom changing me (diaper), but I'm not sure that's real.
What I do remember is, when my baby brother was being born, I was sent to stay with relatives. I was about 1 1/2 years old. I remember being told to go out into the backyard and play. They had a white cat, who had one blue eye and one green eye. It would just stare at me, and I remember thinking that it didn't like me. lol
